Yep, better attendance makes coaches and players more likely to sign if you are offering them the same money as somebody else. The Draft history is typically embarrassing in the first season (at least in my experience). For example, I took a major reach (and I knew it) to take one of the best young kicking prospects in the league. This worked out for me in league 73 with my stud Kicker and Punter (who has nailed four punts on the 1 yard line this season), but my kicker in this league busted and I ended up trading some good picks for a new kicker, whom I will redshirt this year behind my more experienced (if awful) starting kicker.
A lot of early picks end up not working out for people, as well. Two of my top linemen are playing or different squads now because they didn't meet expectations.
