Week 11: Atlanta 27 Kansas City 22

Welcome to the 1st edition of CHIEFly SPEAKING! The "poop" on Kansas City football.

The Chief's went down hard to a scrappy Atlanta team that would just not lose. Kansas City had the game in hand, starting a drive with 2:02 left on the clock and here is the call. "Michael Harris hands the ball off to league leader in rushing, Nickolas Moore...NO WAIT, he's passing? Uh-oh that pass was just INTERCEPTED!"

Atlanta proceeds to take :30 off the clock and scores the game winning touchdown and breaks the hearts of the Kansas City faithful. The loss keeps KC 2 games behind league leading Denver, who lost to Pittsburgh 20-15.

On a positive note: 2nd year WR Robin Leon made his first career start and had 2 catches for 41 yards. He may see some extra action next game vs. Carolina. WR William Martin, whose presence was missed in Atlanta, will be back next game.

Ouch! That looked like it hurt.

Week 12: Kansas City 37 Carolina 14

Kansas City got back on the win side with a victory over Carolina. The Chiefs held Carolina scoreless until the 4th quarter and played an all around good game. KC only had 1 turnover in the game, with QB Michael Harris having a great day: 24/33, 372yds, 1TD, 1INT.

Also playing well in the game was star RB Nick Moore - 122yds on 17carries, 1TD.

The defense had a great game too, allowing only 28 yards rushing. SLB-Carmen Driggs took a Robert Williams errant pass 63yds. for a TD that also highlighted the defensive effort.

GAME BALL goes to QB Michael Harris for his production.

Next up for Kansas City is a trip to New Jersey to face the AC East leaders, who at 10-2 will be a tough opponent.

Week 13: Kansas City 13 New Jersey 10

The boys in red went to New Jersey this week and squeaked by a very talented New Jersey team. Kicker, Josef Withers nailed a 45yd FG with :01 left for the victory. One might say Withers didn't "wither" in a crucial spot!

The game was very exciting to watch right from the start. New Jersey took a 10-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. KC came back with a nice 6:00 - 75yd drive of their own to make it 10-7 NJ. Then the defenses took over. No scoring, until the 4th quarter. KC put up a 3 spot with a FG early in the 4th to tie it at 10-10. And then Withers sent New Jersey fans home unhappy at the end.

Game notes:
Off. - William Martin (8rec/136yds) was welcomed back to the lineup and had a nice day.
Def. - James Pendergrass had only 2 tackles, but added 3 big sacks.

Game ball: K Josef Withers for his clutch FG to win.

It doesn't get any easier for the KC squad, as they travel to division leader, Denver. A win by KC puts Denver and Kansas City in a tie for first. Also, a win by Oakland could make it a 3 way tie for first, all at 10-4.

I would say it isn't easy at all, but instead a "MUST" win. Since Denver beat KC earlier in the season, a win by Denver puts them at 11-4. This is a +2 overall win over you, and clearly holding the tie-breaking advantage over you at 2-0. Not only that, but if you were to win the remaining games and Denver was to lose the last 2, you still would not win the Division to be able to get in the Playoffs. Also, if Oakland was to win a game within the next three combined with your loss, you are eliminated from the playoffs with Oakland holding the advantage. No, it's not easy at all.
Wishing you luck.

You are right. It is a must win. I hope we play like we did against NJ. Only 1 turnover. If we have the usual 4-5 turnovers, I think it might be a long game. I'm also worried about that Oakland team that has been lurking all season. They are a very good team that still may win the division, even if KC wins this one.

Week 14: Kansas City 20 Denver 3

RB Nick Moore...and the KC defense...came up big in a week 14 defensive tussle, in Denver. The win puts KC and Denver in a deadlock at the top of the division. Both teams sit at 10-4, with the Oakland squad 1 game back, at 9-5.

In a slow moving first half, Denver scored first with a Clark Laney 40yd FG. The score remained 3-0 until late in the 2nd quarter when Josef Withers booted a 51yd FG with less than 1 minute left in the half. The half time chat in the locker room must have been a positive one, because the KC defense came up big in the 2nd half, shutting down the Denver run game. The offense added 17 points to get the victory.

Game notes: The KC defense and offense have been hot/cold all season long, but against Denver the D looked great! Here are some numbers from the game:

Gross Passing yards allowed: 72yds
Net Passing yards allowed: 25yds
Rushing yards allowed: 46yds
Sacks/Total yards: 7/47yds
3rd down conversions allowed: 4/14

The star on the offensive side of the ball was RB Nick Moore: 20 carries/151yds.

Game ball: Defensive Coordinator: David Martinez

Kansas City is "on the road again"...good song... next game. They face a Baltimore team (7-7) that is very much alive for tops in their division and hungry for a win.

Week 15: Baltimore 14 Kansas City 3

Just when Kansas City can take a stronghold on the AC West, the offense (which had been pretty good most of the season) struggled mightily. Baltimore put on a clinic in this game. The defense sacked QB Michael Harris 6 times and had 1 INT. Every time the KC offense looked to get something going, the Baltimore defense came up with a great effort. *Good game planning Absolut!

Well, there is now a 3 way tie in the AC West at 10-5. As I mentioned a couple games ago...Watch out for that sneaky Oakland team! This week will determine the division champ, the wild card team (maybe), and who goes home early. Here are the games:

Pittsburgh @ Kansas City
Oakland @ New Orleans
Baltimore @ Denver

Game highlights:
Defense - CB John Cathcart had 7 tackles and a couple of knockdowns.
Offense - Seldom used WR Ricky Isaacs for his sideline dance when KC scored a FG.

Game ball: None to give this game - that too was intercepted. Its whereabouts is unknown.

Good luck to all fighting for a playoff spot!

Week 16: Kansas City 47 Pittsburgh 9

Kansas City put together a great effort in week 16 to get the win and become division winners in AC West. The Chiefs put up 536yds of offense in the game, with QB Michael Harris throwing for 428yds. WR William Martin had another great game with 195yds and a touchdown.

Pittsburgh had a decent day, putting up 339yds, but the turnover bug burst their bubble.

Game notes: The awakening of WR John Stephenson - 127yds and 4 touchdowns. The defense had a good day, with only 2 sacks, but their "bend don't break" attitude provided a solid game in tackles.

Game ball: WR John Stephenson

Oakland comes into KC for a wildcard game. The teams have split their 2 games this season, and this should be a good one.

Hats off to booger926 for putting together the end of season awards. Nice job!

Good luck to all in the playoffs!
